Learning Assistance
At MMSAD, we are committed to helping every student reach their full potential. Our Learning Assistance program offers personalized support to improve math and reading skills. This ensures that students develop a strong academic foundation.
In addition to teacher instruction and assessments, students complete periodic screenings using tools like FastBridge Learning® and STAR assessments, these help identify learning needs in various subjects:
- K-2: Early Reading, Early Math, and Curriculum-Based Measurements in Reading and Math
- 3-5: aReading and aMath, Curriculum-Based Measurements in Reading and Math
- 6-8: aReading and aMath
- PreK-12: STAR Reading and Math
Parent/Guardian Support
MMSAD values your feedback and support! If you are able to help your child at home, we encourage you to begin with the following interventions:
- Reading together: Any reading involving your child will make a difference. Be sure to ask them questions about what you are reading.
- Using online resources: Help your child sign in to their Freckle Account for engaging activities.
- Interactive learning activities: Explore additional tools and activities on our website and others like Pathways’ Pathways.org Activities for Kids.

Lexia
Lexia is a personalized literacy program that helps students develop reading skills at their own pace. The program tracks progress, targets strengths and weaknesses, and provides printable certificates for milestone achievements.
- Lexia Core 5: Focuses on early reading skills for younger students
- PowerUp: Helps older students master complex reading and comprehension skills
Mathletics
Mathletics is an interactive, web-based program designed to support math learning. Students practice skills and complete challenges while earning credits. Mathletics provides step-by-step animated support and links to multiple curriculums.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
AR is a self-paced reading program that motivates students to read regularly. With AR, students receive real-time feedback on their reading progress. This enhances comprehension, vocabulary, and literacy skills.
IXL Learning
IXL provides personalized support in math and language arts while offering interactive questions and built-in support. It adapts to each student's needs so they master key concepts.

Freckle
Freckle helps PreK-12 teachers differentiate instruction and reach every student at their own level across math, ELA, social studies and science.
Lalilo
Lalilo is an innovative, visually engaging literacy software program for K-2 students and teachers. This program, which is standard aligned, supports literacy learning and instruction through interactive and developmentally appropriate exercises for students and extensive data tracking and planning tools for teachers.
Nearpod
Nearpod helps educators make any lesson interactive, whether in the classroom or virtual. The concept is simple: a teacher can create interactive presentations that can contain quizzes, polls, videos, collaborative boards, and more.
