Career and Technical Education
Why CTE Is Important
Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with an incredible opportunity to explore different career paths that align with their current and future interests. This helps them develop a passion for the next stage of their educational journey or the workforce.
Career Pathways
CTE coursework is organized into sequences of courses called pathways. These pathways give students an introduction into a specific career field (like accounting, digital media, engineering, and more). This offers students the chance to earn an early college and career credential that could include college credit, an industry certification, or a work-based learning experience (like an internship). CTE also provides the inspiration to apply all the effort needed in their general education coursework, knowing that a rewarding career awaits them if they work hard.
Whatever path our students want to go down after high school, our school does everything it can to help them reach their full potential.
CTE Benefits
There’s plenty of data that supports the effectiveness of CTE. The American Institutes for Research conducted a 20-year meta analysis and found that CTE programs:
- Had a positive effect on student academic achievement
- Increased high school completion rates
- Increased employability skill development
- Increased college readiness
- Increased student enrollment in two-year colleges
- Increased student employment after high school
One of the best benefits of CTE is it allows students to demonstrate their talents in ways that might not otherwise be assessed in a regular education classroom. This can improve their confidence and sense of self which is very important for every student to develop.
